High Country Harley-Davidson® H.O.G.® Chapter #422 - Road Captains
ROAD CAPTAINS
High Country HOG Chapter's road captains will do their best to ensure your riding enjoyment and safety when riding in group rides. Generally the lead road captain will lead the pack and set a safe riding speed and course for the group to follow. They will maintain a steady and slow acceleration/deceleration pace when leading a group. They realize that drastic changes in speed, while this may be ok when riding alone, are a major safety concern when riding in a pack. A Yo-Yo-ing effect often happens when riders in a pack accelerate/decelerate at different speeds. The larger the pack, speeding up and slowing down becomes magnified. This can be extremely hazardous, and definitely decreases riding enjoyment.
TRAINING
High Country HOG is dedicated to making riding experiences fun...and safe. We provide our road captains with training starting with reasons for attending. A video from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation on Group Riding is presented. After the video, discussions about likes and dislikes is held. Then, actual practice and don’t practice as recommended. We include a section on areas that the group felt the chapter needed to work on and improve because we are always looking to improve.
